EDUCATION & OUTREACH
Education is a key component of the mission of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its Affiliates in its efforts to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease.
To truly eradicate breast cancer, we must not only invest in research for a cure for future generations, but we must also help meet the immediate breast health needs of women and their families facing the disease today. Learning about breast cancer and early detection is our best weapon against the disease and the Komen Foundation strives to provide the most current educational resources in its mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease.
In addition to raising funds for breast health programs for underserved women in Central and South Jersey, our Affiliate also operates an extensive Education and Outreach program to educate and raise awareness among ALL families in the area that EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES. Early detection and treatment offer the best chance of cure and more treatment options. When the disease is confined to the breast, the 5-year survival rate is over 95%.
From corporate requests to health fairs to speaking to Government agency employees, the Education Committee and its presenters have reached tens of thousands of women from all walks of life. It has been especially gratifying to the Committee for the opportunity to reach a great number of women from corporations and the under-served populations in the 13 County area. The Education and Community Outreach Committees, and their volunteers have spent thousands of hours serving the community educating women from all backgrounds about the importance of EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES, and stand ready to come out and talk to your group.
Corporate requests come from corporations, women's groups and other organizations where hundreds of women benefit from the Affiliate's encouragement to get mammograms and do self-examinations. Most women reached through the corporate sector have access to health care; however, they too must be reminded about the lifesaving importance of EARLY DETECTION of breast cancer. Please call 609-896-1201 or email info@komencsnj.org to schedule a speaker.
